YouTube Watch-Time Growth : Keynotes and Steps To Achieve This, continuation of the free tutorial by YouTuber Coach, David Jobs.
It’s a long and stressful week for me but I’m here still, finally submitted my YouTube prototype for growth, waiting for approval…
Growing watch time on YouTube is one hard nut that people have refused to accept. It’s not easy and that’s the simple truth wether you’re a big YouTuber or not.
The picture I attached below is the readings of one of our comedy channel and you can see the watch time there…
Below are some strategies I use to work for most of my clients…
- Cards and Endcreen,
- Episodic content,
- Hooks, and
- Playlist
For this post not to be too cumbersome to newbies understanding, let me explain the aforementioned:
1. CARDS AND ENDCREEN
Cards are those little video boxes that displays at the top of a YouTube video when the person is still talking. For example someone is talking and he/she makes a statement like “check out my last video here (pointing at the top of his screen), that little clickable video box that displays when that person makes that statement is a video card.
Endcreen are those videos that shows at the end of every video where you will see upto 2 or more video showing at the end of a particular video, it’s a bare to get you to watch more.
Now these cards and Endcreens are click bates to keep you more on that channel watching more and more videos, maybe what the person is talking about is not really what you want to hear, then when he mentions the video he did previously (which he will point to the top of his screen for you to go watch) you will now rush to the video and watch. Initially if that click bait is not there you will probably move out of the video because it’s not what you want, but once he has gotten you to click and watch another video you remain on his/her channel watching more and accumulating watch time for the channel, same thing with Endcreen.
HOW IT WILL GROW YOUR WATCH TIME ON YOUTUBE?
Since you need to retain them on your channel for long while watching your videos to be able grow your watch time, making reference to another video on your channel that may possibly interest them will drive them straight to that video to watch it. If maybe the the viewer planned to zoom off maybe because what you’re saying is not what he wants, making reference to that video will keep him longer on the channel (if the video is what he wants) and while watching from video A to video B you’re gathering more and more watch time.
2. EPISODIC CONTENT
Episodic contents are a great way to grow your watch time (My Nollywood folks know how to do this, though they don’t do it professionally).
This is more like a chain of idea or content that maybe connected. Aside being connected ideas you need to connect them in each video, if you’re doing episode two, you make make reference to episode 1 while talking, maybe something like (check out the episode one if you missed it), this will cause new visitors who are just visiting your Channel for the first time and maybe fell on the 2nd video (episode 2) first to go back and watch the previous video.
HOW WILL IT GROW YOUTUBE WATCH TIME?
Since you need to retain them on your channel for long while watching your videos to be able grow your watch time, then connecting your videos is a great way to achieve this. If they suddenly stumbled on episode 3 instead of 1, if they hear you referring them back to episode 1 or 2 will cause them to go back and watch the previous episode for better understanding, and this will go ahead to keep them longer on your channel and since they’re watching your videos it will also grow your watch time.
3. HOOKS: This is a method I don’t practice often but people do and I know it contributes to growth in watch time. Here you do more like an intro video telling people what to expect in the video, this should always come before your channel intro will play. This will help you retain your viewers to watch till you get to the main content even if you have a long intro.
Imagine starting a video then you hear something like “have you been looking for how to create a YouTube channel with your mobile phone, stay through till the end of the video as I show you how”, then after that your intro will play then over to the main video. If someone normally would click off because of how long your intro is or how uninteresting your main video may be to them, with this hook the person will stay till you start the main video (that’s if your topic is what interests him.).
Even if they watch that hook for 10 seconds then wait till after the intro, that few seconds will play a good role in increasing your watch time.
4. PLAYLIST: This also helps grow your watch time, if I’m looking for a particular topic and i check your channel and find a playlist with that topic, I will enter the playlist and play all the videos one after the other until I get what I want.
HOW “PLAYLIST” WILL GROW YOUR WATCH TIME?
Since you need to retain them on your channel for long while watching your videos to be able to grow your watch time, then watching few or all the videos in one of your playlists will help you keep them longer on your channel, and since they’re watching videos it means you’re gathering watch time, as simple as that.
