According to him, the gunmen emerged from a tunnel along the Itam Junction – Nkim Itam Highway axis and attacked him with dangerous weapons, carting away his laptop, phones, cash and other valuables. Narrating his experience, the victim who sustained various degrees of injuries, including a broken jaw, described his attack as “one incident too many.”

“I went for the wedding of my colleague, Mike Ufot at Ikot Akpan Itam in Itu local government area on Saturday and I left there to Uyo for the continuation of my official duties. I was the News Editor for Saturday and I had to come to work on the news for 8:30 p.m. Immediately I finished the news production, I was on my way home. Just a “stone throw” from the station’s gate, I saw three young men coming towards me. They were looking at me and immediately they passed me, they turned back and asked me to stop. I ran, they chased me and in the process they kicked and pushed me till I fell inside the gutter with the bag I was holding which contained my working tools.

As they manhandled me, they took away my phones. I thank God for saving my life,” he narrated. He is currently receiving medical treatment at an undisclosed hospital, called for improved security measures within the vicinity of the station to forestall future occurrences.
