WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW BEFORE STARTING A YOUTUBE CHANNEL
The reasons why my team and I played around YouTube for so long without result not until September 2021 was because nobody told us these things, nobody told us that your knowledge of how YouTube Analytics works is your ticket out of LONG FRUITLESS SUFFERING as a YouTuber.
If you want to run a healthy channel you must learn how to fall in love with YouTube data (analytics) . Below are some very important YouTube Analytics that you should develope on:
1). Returning viewers and New viewers
2). Is your channel gaining or loosing subscribers
3). What’s your CPM ( for monetized channel)
4). CTR (CLICK THROUGH RATE)
5). AVERAGE VIEW DURATION
1). RETURNING VIEWERS & NEW VIEWERS:
This is a YouTube data that shows you the detailed figures of viewers who viewed your videos, YouTube shows you different data per video to help you know if you’re gaining, retaining or having visiting viewers.
From your YouTube studio app you will be able to see how many returning & New viewers you have per video, Returning viewers are those who have watched couple of videos on your channel before and new viewers are new audience who may have stumbled on your video through one means or the other. Having more returning viewers than new viewers actually shows that you have a ‘loyal’ audience who are consistent in viewing your videos, and this may be because of some reasons like ‘your kind of content’, if you make a specific kind genre of content it definitely means that those who subscribed to your channel because of that particular genre of content will keep coming to view your videos.
Then if you get more of new viewers it means that your content is either gaining mass spread, or you’re not stable in the genre of content you dish out, etc. It’s not an offense if your content’s viewers tilts towards any particular direction, but having a healthy combo of the two types of viewers on an average bases shows that you’re doing very well by retaining your old viewers and yet gaining new viewers.
2). IS YOUR CHANNEL GAINING OR LOOSING SUBSCRIBERS:
Here is an analysis that shows a channel owner his or progress in increasing a channel’s subscribers. This analysis appears per video, where YouTube shows you how many subscribers a particular video has gained for your channel channel or vise versa.
3). YOUR CPM (for monetized YouTube channels)
What’s your CPM (cost per Mille) this is more like the amount you will make per 1000 view (because YouTube pays you per thousand views).
The average is usually from $1-$5 but could go unreasonably high in most cases. This particular pay is actually determined by the kind of Niche your video is based around, there are some video niches that YouTube pays upto $23 per thousand views, niches like:
Some high CPM (COST PER MILLE) Niches: Real estate, Investing, Technology, Finance, Medicine, Medicals, Etc… If your video is a financially based video (10 ways to make money from YouTube in 2022) then YouTube will increase your CPM.
Now listen to this, this CPM is not the actual amount you would keep rather it is the amount your video was able to make, because YouTube takes 45% from that and you keep the rest.
4). CTR (click through rate)
Click through rate talks about the number of people who actually clicked on your video, Now your impression does a massive work in increasing your click through rate.
What’s an impression, impression is the number of people who saw your video thumbnail, not all Impressions counts or actually leads to an audience clicking to view your videos. The impressions that count are those that had an audience viewing your thumbnail for upto 1second, such impressions actually leads to views and however increases your CTR.
Now if your CTR is 10% that means out of every 10 impressions 1 person out of the 10 actually click to watch your video.
3 Cardinal things that could help you increase your CTR
– Your video Idea
– Your video thumbnail
– Your video title
5). AVERAGE VIEW DURATION
Here is that particular YouTube analysis that shows you how long your audience spent watching your video.
This particular analysis is very important because this is what actually culminate into ‘WATCH TIME’. Usually if your average view duration is at 7mins upward then your video is really doing well.
HOW DOES THIS CULMINATES INTO WATCH TIME.
Now watch time is more like the time ppl spend watching a particular video on your channel. Most YouTubers only take this serious when they’re hustling for their ‘4K WATCH HOUR’ which is one of the criteria for getting monetized.
We have watch second, watch minute, and watch hour, all summarized under the term WATCH TIME.
