Repeat after me: A degree doesn’t guarantee a better hire. Some people on our team don’t have a bachelor’s degree. We gave them a chance based on their eagerness to learn. And it was one of the best things we’ve done.
The bottom line is this: a degree doesn’t always guarantee someone will be a better fit. Because a degree doesn’t guarantee a team player, integrity, communication, compassion and the burning desire to learn new skills necessary to thrive at work.
Employers should stop rejecting – otherwise highly qualified candidates – for entry-level positions, just because they don’t have a fancy degree.
Eliminating degree requirements can give employers the competitive edge and talent they are looking for. While giving someone the chance they’ve been waiting for.
