Matters Arising: Extension of lockdown in some States by President Buhari — Concerned Nigerian, Dan Okojie rants
Lock-down extended for another two weeks. Government has made zero provisions to curb hunger for millions of people whose livelihoods depend on going out. Staying home seems a cliche associated with the middle class and the elites – who have everything they need and can afford to continue for another month if need be.
How about the millions who don’t have such luxuries? You expect them to remain civil and cooperative? Is hunger any less dangerous than COVID19? Would a man explain to his hungry children that they have to remain so because a virus is in town?
In my opinion, the government is pushing its luck and taking the people’s goodwill for granted.
We do not have to copy western style measures in curbing the spread of the virus without considering the peculiarities of our country where we do not have any safety net for the already precariously vulnerable majority.
How much longer can your soldiers and police whip, maim and even shoot people to remain indoors? Tick says the clock!
