#BoycottAccessBank trending on Twitter with some calling for customers to close their accounts with the bank for colluding with Nigerian Government to oppress the frontliners of #EndSARS protest.
If you would recall, Access Bank, on Friday, tendered an apology for freezing bank accounts of eight (8) #EndSARS promoters/ frontliners after being called out by Nigerians.
The bank however, released a statement, stating that it acted on the orders of the banking regulatory body, Central Bank of Nigeria.
“While acknowledging the concern of all well-meaning parties, we urge that enquiries and views be channelled to the relevant regulatory and judicial agencies where the matter is receiving attention.
“It is therefore surprising that some individuals still choose to target Access Bank in a negative manner despite not being the source of the action.”
Barely 24 hours after releasing the statement, the bank has appeared on the trend table with Nigerians threatening to close their accounts with the financial institution.
This is an empty apology. I hope we set a precedent by getting a favourable judgment against Access Bank, and the regulatory agencies that use their proximity to power as a means to punish citizens for exercising their constitutional right to demand government’s accountability. https://t.co/D1Zph1i542

I was making a transaction at a branch of Access Bank and customers kept coming into the banking hall to close their accounts. Now I understand the apology. https://t.co/yrwPeWQa26

I and my friends successfully closed our account with access bank today not minding the heavy presence of Nigeria police force stationed there for no clear reason, and we did this to show we are against the unjust blocking of account belonging to young hardworking Nigerians…

Access Bank restricted the account of #EndSARS protesters ever before it received a court order. In addition, CBN lied on oath & made allegation of terrorism against lawful protesters in order to obtain a freezing order. What the hell

Why is Access Bank always in the news for evil?
"Access Bank sacks 500 Staff due to COVID19"
"Access bank grants skycraper top for snipers to shoot at EndSARS protesters."
"Access Bank freezes account of #EndSARS protesters"
Zero banking values. Just orange colour and trash.

Customers did not choose to target you Access Bank, your chief chose to target Nigerians who have done nothing but demand that they stop getting killed. You‘re not as helpless as you claim. Let Herbert call his friend Godwin and tell him to stand down from people's accounts. https://t.co/VxROTmSCcg
